"Henry and June". I saw the movie before I read the book, both courtesy of my then lover, the only man I was truly obsessed with, though it was never about love... Anais Ninn's affair with Henry Miller is as intense as it sounds and Uma Thurman is absolutely brilliant. Nothing glorifies sin quite like this combo. My life has not been the same since :)

i never read the book, but I love the movie. I was really into HM before the move came out because I read "Tropic of Cancer" and being an English major I was so turned on to the fact that he went to Paris with $5 in his pocket. the way he wrote about having nothing and then getting a meal was divine. I thought one day I would go to Prague in 1991(some say like Paris in the 20's). Dreams of youth die hard.

I know, I'm still hanging on to mine, its pathetic :) I think you'd like the book, its very much like HM but with a woman's touch. And what a woman..I read all her diaries and I think there's enough in there for a few lives..This slow burn building up to a glorious bonfire..You'd want a cigarette after a few pages..:)Or a water hose :)Prague's been trampled by tourist in those very 1990s so you didn't miss much of a buzz, but I'd still love to go, its so beautiful..

Yeah, the 1990s when I was young enough not care about a stinky hospice...and really take in local color...now I want a private bath.

I'm going to pick that up. The two of them were so perfect in that movie.

I had a cigarette on Saturday and I couldn't finish it. In Prague or after that book, I'm sure I would. ;)
